Emoji Match has no accounts, no analytics of our own, and no tracking across other apps or websites. Nothing you do in this game is sold or used to build a profile of you. The iOS app shows an occasional advertisement between games; the website at emojimatch.us shows none at all. This page explains the small amount of data the game handles, and why.
What we never collect
- No sign-up, login, email address, or password — the game has no user accounts.
- No analytics or telemetry SDK of our own, and none at all on the website.
- No access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, location, or health data.
- No tracking across other apps or websites. The app does not ask for permission to track you, and does not read your device's advertising identifier (IDFA).
- No sale of data to anyone.
Solo play works entirely on your device
Solo games are generated and scored locally. No game data leaves your device when you play alone, and solo play works with no network connection at all. In the iOS app an ad may be requested between solo games when you are online; offline, no ad is requested and the game is unaffected.
Multiplayer rooms
Multiplayer needs a server, so a few things are sent to it while you are in a room:
- The display name you type. It is shown to the other players in your room so they can tell who scored. The name is held only in the server's memory for as long as that room is active — it is never written to a database or a disk, and it is gone when the room empties or the server restarts. Type anything you like; it does not need to be your real name.
- A random reconnect ID. Your device generates a random identifier and stores it locally so that if your connection drops mid-game you get your seat and score back instead of losing them. It is a random value, not linked to you or your device's identity, and the server forgets it roughly 30 minutes after you leave.
- Your taps during a round. Which emoji you tapped and when, so the server can decide who matched first. This is discarded as the game moves on.
Room codes are short, so treat a room as semi-public rather than private: anyone you share the link or code with can join, and everyone in the room sees the name you chose. Please don't enter anything sensitive as a display name.
Stored on your device
The game keeps a few small values in your device's local storage. They stay on your device, are not sent anywhere, and are not used for tracking:
- Whether sound effects are on or off.
- Whether music is on or off.
- The random reconnect ID described above.
- The last display name you used, so you don't have to retype it.
Deleting the app — or clearing your browser's site data, if you play on the web — removes all of it.
Server logs
Like any website, our server and hosting provider record ordinary technical information about requests, which can include IP address, timestamp, the page requested, and browser or app version. These logs are used only to keep the service running and to investigate abuse or outages. They are not used to build user profiles, are not combined with game activity to identify you, and are not shared with advertisers.
Advertising in the iOS app
The iOS app shows a full-screen advertisement after a completed game — never more than once a minute, and never after your first game. Ads are supplied by Google AdMob. The website shows no ads at all, and there is no advertising anywhere in solo play while you are offline.
Ads are non-personalized. The app asks Google for non-personalized ads on every request, never asks for permission to track you, and never reads your device's advertising identifier. Ads are chosen from the context they appear in rather than from a profile of your interests.
Serving an ad still involves Google's Mobile Ads SDK receiving technical data. Google states this may include your IP address and an approximate location derived from it, device and operating-system information, device and advertising identifiers, diagnostics such as crash logs and performance data, and how you interacted with the ad. Google uses it to deliver the ad, cap how often you see one, prevent fraud, and report performance. The current list is published in Google's Mobile Ads SDK data disclosure, alongside Google's privacy and terms for partners.
This collection is Google's, not ours — it happens inside their SDK and we do not receive, store, or have access to any of it. We still keep no analytics of our own.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent form before requesting any ad, and you can change your answer at any time from Settings → Ad privacy options. To report an ad you believe is inappropriate, use Settings → Report an ad.
Children
Emoji Match is a simple matching game suitable for all ages, but it is a general-audience game and is not directed at children. It has no accounts and no way to submit content beyond a display name visible to the people already in your room. Advertising in the iOS app is limited to a general-audience content rating. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
Because the game holds no account and no persistent record of you, there is no profile to export or delete. To remove everything the game has stored, delete the app or clear your browser's site data. To stop sending anything to our server at all, play solo.
Where Google's consent form applies, you can withdraw or change your consent at any time from Settings → Ad privacy options in the iOS app. Deleting the app also clears the consent choice stored on your device.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top. Material changes will be reflected before the affected feature ships.
